I am about to cut out on my husband and children; I cannot stand this movie. It's Mama Mia. It is terrible. I am watching Meryl Streep sing "Money-Money-Money." This is terrible. Maybe I am not a sorority sister. Maybe I hate it when people break into song. I don't like the theme of wistful love, denying that a woman needs it while she wants it, etc.
Bah humbug.
Never mind, I'm hooked. . . the Mama Mia song with Meryl is great. These guys are great. This is too bloody close to my own LIFE!
LOL
LOL
LOL
My kids noticed immediately that Meryl crossed herself "properly"-- that makes me happy.
Acted like a stupid little slut-- HEY! I resent that!
Meryl-- her moment of sorrow and here her best friends are singing ABBA songs!

I have been debating whether to rent this DVD or not. I like most (but not all) musicals, but I just can't get past the idea of Meryl Streep singing ABBA songs.
I had to leave the room when they broke into song when the bride was making her march. It was too much. I was groaning the whole time.
One of my children was conceived between marriage and while I know exactly who her DNA dad is, this could have been me. She knows the details and was laughing when I stormed out of my room, "When you get married, Daddy gives you away ! PERIOD! If your DNA dad comes around, he will understand. Capice?"
My husband loved it-- he says it is supposed to be over the top. All of ABBA's songs are singable, you don't have to have heard ABBA to know them.
Last summer I was at a club and a couple sat with us at our table. I got up to kareoke and since I'd not been able to get the song, "Super Trooper" out of my head since he told me that he was a state trooper, I had to sing "to all the troopers out here!" It WAS very funny and our new friends were quite amused. Having had more drinks than usual, I was slurring my words and shinging, "shuper trooper." Ahem. Not one of my best moments. . .
Well, I think the beginning wasn't good but from the middle it was bearable.
I saw it with Móni and at the middle asked her: Móni, where are the shooting scenes? I was saying it because Pierce Brosnan.
As long as you don't have anything against ABBA. I love their songs, although I wouldn't put it on my MP3 player to listen to on the metro!
Is it just that you can't see Streep in a musical role?
The other day in the shower I had a Grease song stuck in my head, something I probably haven't heard in 20 years - because I can't stand that musical!!!
I LOVE ABBA-- they are my most listened to Pandora station!
What I don't like about musicals in general is that they get the story going then stop and sing. Pete's Dragon was another one-- I was like, "Stop that!" I said that in the Goldstream Theater when I was nine years old! (I loved and still love Helen Reddy's voice-- "Peaceful" is a work of art, as is, "Candle on the Water" which os from PD.) My mom took me home after that and I heard her tell my dad, "She is impossible during musicals! She gets it from you!"
Did you know that the Maurice Gibb wrote the sound track to Grease? There is one song in that that I love and it's at the end-- I didn't hear it for years until MY HUSBAND told me that he thought I'd like it.
I loved the Sound of Music.
I didn't know "Mama Mia" had a plot--I thought it was just an excuse to play the music. I couldn't stand ABBA in the '70s and '80s, but they've grown on me. As they used to say on American Bandstand, "it's got a good beat and it's easy to dance to. A still hate Air Supply, though. Please, no musicals based on their songs.
I used to love Air Supply because they were my favorite make-out music. Then one day something happened. . . I started to listen to the music and it was all over for me with Air Supply.
Oh I can sing all the way through Sound of Music - it's one of my faves, but that's the wonder of Rodgers & Hammerstein for you!
But the tops for me are Cole Porter musicals. Anything from the 20s and 30s, yay!
