I'm not Jewish but I am drawn toward the faith because I always have been. I have a son with special needs and this story inspired me. I hope you like it, too.

My sons had me buy them a couple of outfits that were Army-themed and one wanted a chef's apron and hat at back-to-school time just so they'd have something for Halloween! I cannot afford costumes, but we put money into the Christmas yolka costumes at church. My 9 year old said, "We got tired of being the only kids who looked like a Nativity scene at school." He was teasing me but sadly serious at the same time. ;)
We have fun carving pumpkins and they wear silly hats for trick or treating-- it's too cold IMNSHO for normal costuming!
